Refuses to Apologize for Playing up Native American Heritage

Actor James Woods attends the 2017 Writers Guild Awards L.A. Ceremony at The Beverly Hilton Hotel Trump calls Elizabeth Warren ‘total fraud,’ offers to give DNA test himself

Ms Warren, who is seen as a potential 2020 challenger to Mr Trump, appears to have followed the president's tactics, striking back nearly instantly at the president who continues to ridicule her claim of Native American ancestry.

Warren was a Penn Law professor from 1987 to 1995, before she went on to Harvard Law School.

Skeptics have long mocked Warren citing her grandfather's "high cheekbones" as proof, and Trump has referred to the senator as "Pocahontas" poking fun at her alleged ties.

Apparently, Trump's talent for making Democrats do dumb stuff began to work its magic, because Senator Warren had her DNA tested to prove she was indeed of Native American ancestry.

Racialized people are more likely to take it all in stride: Ms. Siddiqi has a black friend whose DNA test showed fewer than 20 per cent African genes, and is now jokingly on the hunt for somebody "less black than me".

A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship.

He started Tuesday with three tweets claiming Warren's DNA test is "bogus" and that she perpetrated a "scam and a lie". In the infrastructure of systemic racism she has not experienced the same discrimination that a person of color has experienced. And that is fine. Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. was livid.

"After years of President Trump derisively referring to Elizabeth Warren as "Pocahontas", the Democratic senator and prospective presidential candidate on Monday took the extraordinary step of releasing a DNA analysis indicating "strong evidence" that she has "Native American ancestry".

The test has been a source of mockery from President Donald Trump and other conservatives. Sen. "And Trump can say whatever he wants about me, but mocking Native Americans or any group in order to try to get at me?"

Again, it's not Trump she'll have to battle. "So the heritage runs deep in my family", said Mullin (above left), a recognized member of the Cherokee Nation.

Warren released the DNA test widely Monday - suggesting as much as 1/64 of her DNA was from a Native American population - along with a folksy campaign video that retold a vague family story about a Native American on her mother's side. 'She has so little Indian - well she has none - that I can not call her Pocahontas anymore.

As Philip Wegmann of the Washington Examiner observed, Warren regularly bragged about her heritage and listed herself as a minority in the Association of American Law School's directory while a Harvard Law School professor and even contributed a recipe to a Native American cookbook called Pow Wow Chow. That would make her between 1/64th and 1/1024th Native American, according to The Boston Globe. She added that "they feel disappointed, and at this point she [Warren] needs to come back and apologize to everybody for what she's done". Just because she grew up in Oklahoma where there is a large Native American population it doesn't mean she experiences life as a Native American woman. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), after Warren's DNA test results were questioned by the Cherokee Nation. "Please send the check to the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center", she wrote, describing the organization as "a nonprofit working to protect Native women from violence".

The statement concluded: "Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage". I wish I had been more mindful of that distinction.
