Rosenstein's own job was viewed as hanging in the balance after a New York Times report indicated the deputy attorney general suggested secretly recording Trump and invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office shortly after Trump fired James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director previous year.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy - along with the top Democrats from those same committees, Jerrold Nadler and Elijah Cummings - announced Thursday night that they will conduct the interview.

The only other person will who be present for the interview besides Rosenstein and the four committee leaders will be a court reporter.

The announcement on Thursday that Rosenstein will sit for a transcribed interview October 24 comes after weeks of negotiations over the meeting.

On September 21, The New York Times reported that Rosenstein more recently suggested he secretly recorded the president past year to show the chaos of his administration. Since then, lawmakers have wanted to question him on the report.

Rosenstein vehemently denied the claim, and subsequent media reports also cast some doubt on the veracity of The Times' reporting.

Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Rosenstein said, "I have a solemn responsibility to make sure that cases like that are pursued and prosecuted, and I'm pleased the president has been supportive of that".

"And yet, he can't come talk to Congress about the idea that he made a statement about recording the president of the United States?"

The document release comes after The Associated Press requested access to the documents and an attorney acting for the AP and other news outlets got involved.

"Based on additional information we've learned over the last week, it is clear Rod Rosenstein should resign immediately".

"He has not co-operated with Congress, failed to be transparent about his actions, and shown a lack of candour in the way he's characterized a number of events", Meadows tweeted.

So if you want to see what Mueller has uncovered after the midterms, you kind of have to vote for a party in Congress that takes the Russian Federation investigation seriously and will publicize its findings and back up Mueller's work with their own public hearings.
