The network said it will air the interview in full on Sunday evening.

But Trump said he did not want to lose military sales to Saudi Arabia that are coveted by U.S. competitors Russian Federation and China, also exporters of military equipment.

He said any response to Khashoggi's killing "needs to be strong, not symbolic", including the possibility of cutting off US weapons sales to Riyadh, or it would undermine the U.S.'s moral standing in the world. The newspaper did not address that in its report.

The moments of his "interrogation, torture and killing were audio recorded and sent to both his phone and to iCloud", CNN quoted the privately-owned Sabah daily as saying.

Turkish officials say they fear Saudi agents killed Khashoggi after he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2. They've also alleged that they have video of the slaying, but not explained how they have it.

Turkey's Foreign Minister, Mevut Cavusoglu, said Saudi Arabia was not yet co-operating with the investigation and urged the kingdom to allow Turkish officials to enter the consulate.

Saudi Arabia firmly denies any involvement in his disappearance and says Khashoggi left the consulate that afternoon.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday issued a statement in which he voiced "full confidence" in Saudi Arabia and praised its leaders for their support for the Palestinians. It echoes how Russian Federation has described the men who allegedly carried out the Novichok nerve agent poisonings in England in March. So is Saudi Arabia.

Despite the assurances from the White House that it will take a hardline toward the Saudis if it's revealed that they were involved in Khashoggi's disappearance and possible death, critics of the Trump administration question how the president's previous business dealings with the country will affect his response.

Trump promised Friday to personally call Saudi Arabia's King Salman soon about "the awful situation in Turkey".

"I don't want to hurt jobs, I don't want to lose an order like that", Trump said.

Writing in the New York Times, Ms Cengiz said her fiancé did not express any fears about going to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to sort out some paperwork ahead of their wedding.

No details of the conversation were released. But he says he has not discussed Khashoggi with Saudi King Salman as he said Friday he would do.

"I am planning on going at this point", Mnuchin said on Friday of the investment conference, which is slated to start in Riyadh on 23 October.

She said investigators were examining his cellphones, which he had left with her.

The source said the Kingdom's government and its people are steadfast, glorious as ever, no matter whatever the pressures and circumstances might be.

"The kingdom rejects any threats", the Saudi Press Agency reported, citing an official it didn't identify.
