Within minutes, dozens of political and advocacy groups blasted out emailed reactions.

Her hearing last Thursday didn't appear to have much of an affect on all members of the Senate however, as the majority voted to push ahead with his conformation for Supreme Court Justice. But we will carry that anger into the election.

In today's Senate vote on the Kavanaugh confirmation, Collins and Flake voted yes, while Murkowski voted to withdraw her "no" vote, a move she made to soften her decision to oppose the nomination.

Kavanaugh's nomination became an intense personal and political drama when university professor Christine Blasey Ford accused him of sexually assaulting her when they were high school students in a wealthy suburb of Washington in 1982.

Since then, the country watched agape as one electric moment after another gushed forth.

Collins told Bash that while she found Ford's testimony "heart-wrenching", the fact that both Ford and Kavanaugh said they were "100 percent certain" of their statements meant that she had to look to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for additional corroborating evidence. Kavanaugh was originally nominated by President Donald Trump on July 9. "Big day for America!" he tweeted.

"Based on all the factors we have before us, I do not believe Judge Kavanaugh has earned this seat", she said. The Republicans and Democrats both get 15 of those 30 hours to talk, debate etc...but at the end they have to vote.

Accusations against Kavanaugh energized the #MeToo social media movement that emerged after high-profile accusations of sexual assault and harassment by men in politics, the media and the entertainment industry.

Protesters railed against Kavanaugh on Capitol Hill in the week leading up to the final vote Saturday. Many held signs and sat down until police began making widespread arrests. People on the steps of the Capitol chanted "vote them out!" and "the whole world is watching", messages that at times met with jeers and boos from others in the crowd.

"I found Dr. Ford's testimony to be heart-wrenching, painful, compelling, and I believe that she believes what she testified to", Collins said. "And it is long overdue", said Ms. Collins.

During the rally, the president also accused Democrats of supporting sanctuary cities and of wanting to strip funding from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). "And my heart goes out to anyone who has experienced any type of sexual assault in their life". Susan Collins, R-Maine, that she planned to vote in support of the controversial Kavanaugh.

In the procedural vote Friday that handed Republicans their crucial initial victory, senators voted 51-49 to limit debate, defeating Democratic efforts to scuttle the nomination with endless delays.

The president praised Kavanaugh, calling him "a man of great character", while also condemning Democrats for their "disgraceful campaign" against him.

"The Democrats are willing to cause such destruction in the pursuit of power, just imagine the devastation they would cause if they ever obtained the power they so desperately want and crave", Trump said.

House Democrats will open an investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct and perjury against Judge Brett Kavanaugh if they win control of the House in November, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., who is in line to be the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said Friday.

Kavanaugh would replace the retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, who was a swing vote on issues such as abortion, campaign finance and same-sex marriage.
