Senate Democrats also say Kavanaugh was not truthful to the committee when he said he wasn't aware he had received documents obtained by Republican staffers on a server they shared with Democrats during the Bush judicial nomination fights.

Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted Thursday to hold a committee vote on the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh at a specific time, 1:45 p.m., on September 20. "That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further", Feinstein explained. "I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities", she continued. "Feinstein or anyone raised the specter of new "information" about him", Kupec said.

Democrat Sen. Diane Feinstein sent a letter to the feds that reportedly included allegations of sexual misconduct between Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and a woman when they were both in high school.

Feinstein did not disclose the contents of the letter when pressed on Thursday and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said he had not seen it. The Justice Department declined to comment, and Kavanaugh did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

At the committee Thursday, Republicans brushed aside a flurry of Democratic attempts to delay the consideration of Kavanaugh or subpoena more documents about his past work, sticking with a schedule that could see him confirmed by October 1. Dianne Feinstein of California said in a statement.

"There's no plan to change the committee's consideration of Judge Kavanaugh's nomination", Hartmann said in a statement.

Kavanaugh had more to say Wednesday about the moment he did not shake the hand of a Florida man whose daughter died this year in a school shooting - caught in a black and white photo that sped around social media - that made for one of the most dramatic moments of his confirmation hearings last week.

The documents show Kavanaugh's involvement in Bush's nomination of Charles Pickering to an appellate court in the South as Pickering faced questions about his views on race relations. However, BuzzFeed News also reports that a lawyer believed to be representing the woman - acclaimed #MeToo attorney Debra Katz - was spotted leaving Capitol Hill on Wednesday shortly after the Intercept broke news of the letter.

Kupec pointed out that throughout his 25 years of public service, Kavanaugh has been vetted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation repeatedly.

Under questioning last week, Kavanaugh clarified that while he may have attended meetings and hearing prep sessions, he wasn't the primary White House official assigned to Pryor. But on Thursday, the White House decried news of the letter as an attempt to delay the confirmation.

Kavanaugh's security detail ushered him out in a "split second", according to the judge's response to a written question from Grassley.

As the Senate Judiciary Committee continues to consider Kavanaugh's nomination, Democratic senators and progressive groups are amplifying their concerns about the nominee.
