CBS said in an internal memo that, although the allegations are not directly related to Fager's termination, the company is still conducting an independent investigation into the matter. Murder, She Wrote was canceled in 1996, when Lansbury was 70 years old. Chen began, making no opening reference to her absence from CBS this week until tonight's episode, or that her The Talk colleagues had dining on her family drama on Monday and Tuesday's episodes, or that Sharon Osbourne had observed of Chen's husband on national TV, "obviously the man has a problem".

Rhodes said that Fager's longtime No. 2, Bill Owens, will manage the newsmagazine while a search is underway "for a new executive producer of the program". The decision came amid multiple accusations of sexual harassment against Fager in The New Yorker in July and just days after the company's CEO and chairman, Les Moonves, departed over similar allegations.

Moonves said in a statement that "untrue allegations from decades ago are now being made against me that are not consistent with who I am".

In another report Sunday, former intern Sarah Johansen accused Fager of groping her at a work event. A CBS News reporter working on a story about Fager revealed that he had sent her a text message urging her to "be careful".

On Sunday, The New Yorker's Ronan Farrow reported six new women's "claims that Moonves forced them to perform oral sex on him, that he exposed himself to them without their consent, and that he used physical violence and intimidation against them".

In a statement sent to CNN's Brian Stelter, Fager said his ouster had nothing to do with the New Yorker story. His departure comes two days after CBS announced that CEO Leslie Moonves would step down following allegations of sexual assault and harassment.

On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter released a scathing article by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, creator of the '80s and early '90s CBS sitcom favorite Designing Women.

Fager was only the second executive producer of "60 Minutes" in the show's 50-year history.

In July, after Farrow's first New Yorker expose, Chen issued a defiant statement, saying, "I have known my husband, Leslie Moonves, since the late '90s, and I have been married to him for nearly 14 years".

Farrow continued reporting. He heard from additional women who lodged serious accusations against Moonves. CBS said it will donate $20 million to one or more organizations that support the #MeToo movement and equality for women in the workplace.

Moonves had already been in exit talks with CBS.

Their exits follow Charlie Rose, the former co-host of "CBS This Morning".

"Jeff Fager is leaving the company effective immediately", Rhodes wrote.
