After nearly quitting, 'everything is almost perfect': Del Potro

"I am having two great years so I just have to enjoy the moments".

The Spaniard still managed to serve his way through the game to make it 2-4 in the second, but Del Potro held serve at love on the ensuing game.

US Open predictions: Is Novak Djokovic the biggest threat to Rafael Nadal's trophy chances?

"[Today] at 2-all in first set, I told my box I felt something in my knee. You could imagine very hard for me to say goodbye before the match finish but at some point you have to take a decision". But, you know, he's got two days now to recover, so he's going to be fresh. I know that I will have to play at my highest level to keep having chances of success. "It was not a tennis match at the end".

"It's not a match when one is playing and the other is at the side of the court". I didn't take any pleasure in watching Nadal go through the motions in that second set - especially in case he did more damage.

Twelve months ago, a tired Del Potro was essentially out of gas by the time he faced Nadal, but it was a different story on this occasion as his opponent was not at full fitness.

As he shook hands with the umpire and a typically gracious and sensitive Del Potro, Nadal struggled to contain his emotions.

"[He's] playing very solid everything: serve, return, groundstrokes. Then he decide to stop", Del Potro said.

Del Potro lost in the semi-finals past year to Nadal 6-4, 0-6, 3-6, 2-6 and would aim to exact revenge this time round. He pulled out during an Australian Open quarterfinal with an upper right leg injury against Marin Cilic in January.

Now he stands one match away from winning the US Open for a third time.

"But he was always a top five player in the eyes I think of everyone", said Djokovic. "This time it was a little bit more aggressive with my movement", Nadal added. Was not something progressive.

I like to do Yoga every day.

After nearly 16 hours of play, Rafael Nadal's body finally gave in. I know what I have.

Nishikori, seeking to follow compatriot Naomi Osaka into a singles final at the U.S. Open, faced immediate pressure and saved four break points in the second game of the match before Djokovic converted a fifth.

Nonetheless, Nadal has ruled out a long injury layoff and that the experience of dealing with knee issues will help him overcome his latest injury.

He is 45-4 this season, with half the losses due to injury retirements.

But six months later he was off the tour after undergoing surgery on his right wrist and, just when he was finally back to his best, he began to feel pain in his left wrist. I am playing well.

"I had my biggest memories on this court in 2009 when I beat Rafa and Roger (Federer, in the final)".

"But I'm here. I'm excited to keep surprising the tennis world, as I did with myself". I am very competitive at the age of 32.

"All my career everybody says that because of my style I will have a short career".

Novak Djokovic of Serbia celebrates match point against Kei Nishikori of Japan in a men's semi-final match on day twelve of the 2018 U.S. Open tennis tournament at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

For the 31-year-old Djokovic, victory on Sunday would represent a second Slam in succession after his Wimbledon triumph and 14th in a remarkable career.
