'Gather round': Apple unveils iPhone launch date

Apple to unveil new iPhones in coming weeks Apple set to launch its new iPhones on September 12

But now, a new report coming from 9to5Mac reveals that both the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhones will be called iPhone XS.

Documents filed at the US Federal Communications Commission uncovered earlier this year showed Apple had sought approval of a gold iPhone X but had never released the version. Apple is also expected to launch a third iPhone model that could have the same facial recognition sensor but a price closer to $700 than $1000. It is also expected to have bezels slightly thicker than those pricier models, as well as a single rear-facing camera and smaller battery - though Apple's flagship A12 processor and Face ID should be featured in every new iPhone.

As for the Apple Watch, we're again looking at something that largely does not deviate from the Apple Watch as we know it today. Or the activity rings on an Apple Watch.

Apple is one of those companies that makes people wait all year for its new products with bated breath. Instead of an iPhone 7s, it jumped straight to an iPhone 8 and an iPhone X (for the number ten, not the letter).

Hours after that company sent out invites for its hardware event, its new iPhone XS devices leaked.

Ars will be at Apple's September event reporting on all the news, so be sure to check back for the latest on September 12. The analog watch face shows a total of eight complications around the time and within the clock hands.

Those are all of the details for now, but luckily September 12th is just around the corner.

Pre-orders usually start on the Friday after the event (so Friday, September 14), and, in the past, the first customers have gotten new watches and phones (shipped or in stores) in one to two weeks, so Friday September 21 or Friday, September 28. And similar to 2017's iPhone lineup, Apple may force the world into a truly wireless future, as it seems the company may get rid of the headphone jack on these iPad Pros. Moving on, according to sources familiar with the matter, French radio station Europe 1 has claimed on Monday that Apple will be hosting its event on September 12 at 10 AM at the Steve Jobs Theatre.
