Stephen Colbert's Alex Jones character also lost the 'war on info'

Alex Jones ‘patriots’ rush to App Store to download Infowars app Twitter CEO: Alex Jones 'hasn’t violated our rules'

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sparked outrage on Twitter Tuesday when he doubled down on his explanation for not banning Infowars host and founder Alex Jones.

"We didn't suspend Alex Jones or Infowars yesterday", Dorsey said.

"We know that's hard for many, but the reason is simple: he hasn't violated our rules".

In November 2016, we shared more details around hateful conduct and how we enforce policy violations. But it became a hot issue in the United States after companies like Facebook, Google and Twitter were accused of failing to stop alleged Russian interference during the 2016 presidential election.

In another tweet, Dorsey explained why Twitter won't react to the "outside pressure" and how it would continue to enforce straightforward principles impartially regardless of the political viewpoints.

Rather than banning people like Jones, Dorsey explained that journalists should work to refute unsubstantiated rumors, which will allow people to form their own opinions.

"Twitter is reflective of real conversations happening in the world and that sometimes includes perspectives that may be offensive, controversial, and/or bigoted", she said.

Dorsey then went on to say that it was the job of reporters to shoot down any false assertions made by Jones.

As BuzzFeed's Charlie Warzel points out, Jones does use Twitter differently to other social media sites, choosing to be less inflammatory.

The Great War on Info is no more, according to Stephen Colbert, for Alex Jones has lost it.

In the same thread, Dorsey said Twitter in the past has "been bad at explaining our decisions" but that they're "fixing that".

It also noted that some of the content banned from other platforms hasn't shown up on Twitter. Everyone is now anticipating if any other media company will be targeted in this way by the social media giant and just how veracious this crackdown on fake news will be. Apple Inc. and Spotify Technology SA have taken similar actions against podcasts produced by Jones.

"Folks, there was some bad news recently for extreme right-wing conspiracy theorist and bath salts spokesmodel Alex Jones", the Late Show host said. "When users violate these policies repeatedly, like our policies against hate speech and harassment or our terms prohibiting circumvention of our enforcement measures, we terminate their accounts".
