U.S. mid-term elections: Trump claims win in key OH vote
On Tuesday in the last special election before the midterms Democrats might just snag another deep red Congressional seat

The campaign to fill the 12th district seat, vacated when GOP Rep.
Mr Trump won the 12th Congressional District in 2016 by more than 11 percentage points and Republicans have held it since 1983.
The year's last special election for a House seat was too close to call Tuesday night-but that didn't stop Republicans from declaring victory in an OH district they have held since 1983, the Washington Post reports.
Outside Republican groups heavily outspent Democrats in the race by a more than five to one margin, hoping to blunt any momentum O'Connor had.
It's rare, but not impossible, for election results to be overturned when absentee votes skew hard in one direction.
Hours before polls opened, Trump again weighed in on Twitter, casting James as "a potential Republican star".
The narrow margin will be little comfort for Republicans anxious about the prospect of a Democratic wave heading into the November 6 elections, and it is certain to encourage Democrats who performed dramatically better than expected in a district Republicans have represented since the early 1980s. Republicans had tried to tie the 31-year-old Franklin County recorder to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, falling back on a tried and true strategy of scaring wayward Republicans and independents about a return of Speaker Pelosi.
Danny O'Connor, a Democrat from Ohio and US Representative candidate, in Columbus, Ohio, before the vote. The suburban-rural splits were huge, with O'Connor over-performing normal Democratic numbers near Columbus and Balderson racking up strong margins in the district's smaller towns and rural areas.
O'Connor is trying to appeal both to Democrats and to Republicans who might not like Trump's tone or policies.
In a way, Trump's popularity in the area is on the ballot, too.
The midsummer affair comes as Trump's shadow looms over primary contests in four other states on Tuesday, none bigger than Kansas, where the Republican president roiled the governor's race Monday by opposing the sitting GOP governor on the eve of the election.
Balderson had both Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a strong Trump critic, and the president behind him.
Ultimately, the results may not even be known for a while. MSNBC's Steve Kornacki reports that 3,435 provisional ballots were cast, but the OH secretary of state's website says such ballots aren't touched until at least 10 days after an election.
Voters in OH and Kansas joined those in Missouri, Michigan and Washington state.
His favored candidate for MI governor, state Attorney General Bill Schuette, defeated Lt. Gov. Brian Calley to claim the GOP nomination.
President Trump was less shy about declaring victory.
Outgoing Republican Gov. Rick Snyder had backed Calley, but Trump is more popular there with the GOP base in the state.
In Missouri, Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill claimed her party's nomination, while state Attorney General Josh Hawley will represent the GOP.
Meanwhile progressive duo Sen.
Sanders, who defeated Hillary Clinton in the state back in 2016, and Ocasio-Cortez lined up to back El-Sayed, who ran on an innovative "Medicare for all" plan and proposals for public broadband and tuition-free college.
Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley is expected to take on McCaskill, and in MI, military veteran and business executive John James is vying for the chance to knock off Stabenow. As voters were going to the polls, Trump said Balderson would make a "great congressman".
