Israel has carried out dozens of strikes in Syria in recent months and been blamed for dozens more, which it has not acknowledged.

Syrian air defense forces at Mezzeh Military Airport say they engaged "hostile missiles" in the southwestern part of Damascus province late Thursday night local time, as reports of powerful explosions heard over the Syrian capital by numerous residents in the area, flooded social media.

He said the Russian presence there was temporary, and that the observation posts would be handed over to Syrian regime forces once the situation stabilized.

In a separate development, according to media reports, Russian Federation is planning to deploy military police on the Golan Heights frontier between Syria and Israel and set up eight observation posts.

The move comes as Russian Federation continues to become more involved in Middle Eastern affairs after its military backing of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Israel said the group was around 200m (656ft) from an Israeli fence in the zone, delineated by Israel and Syria in 1974.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that it was tracking the movement of the men toward the border fence with Israel on the Golan Heights on Wednesday evening.

Russian Federation demanded the immediate access by global humanitarian entities to the Rukban refugee camp, where it is suspected that the Pentagon carries out recruitment work among civilians to make up radical groups. He reiterated Israel's demand that Iran not set up military bases against it in Syria, nor that Syria be used to smuggle arms to Hezbollah guerrillas in neighbouring Lebanon.

"It did not seem as if they were fleeing, seeking refuge", Conricus said. They didn't elaborate but later Putin said he agreed with Trump on securing Israel's border with Syria in line with the 1974 deal. An initial assessment by Israel's military identified the gunmen as Islamic State militants, in what would mark a rare attempt by the Islamist militants to infiltrate Israel.

Israel's military spokesperson, Lt. -Col.

Israeli troops were on "high alert and readiness" following the strike.

Rebels still control substantial territory in northern Syria, mostly along the Turkish border.

Assad told his troops on Wednesday they were close to victory after inflicting a succession of defeats on fighters.
