According to multiple reports from local Italian media, the 57-year-old actor was injured in Sardinia, where he is now filming the mini-series, "Catch-22". Clooney, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the scooter and flew 20 feet in the air.

Police told NBC News that the accident happened around 8:15 a.m. local time when a vehicle did not obey the right of way and collided with Clooney at an intersection.

Clooney reportedly was in Sardinia filming a television miniseries adapted from Joseph Heller's World War II novel Catch-22.

"George Clooney fell and slammed the windshield of the Mercedes". A photo tweeted by the local news outlet shows a motorcycle beside a slightly damaged Mercedes and a fire extinguisher.

Clooney got an MRI to check the extent of his knee injury and his wife, Amal Clooney, rushed to his side. "He is recovering at home and will be fine".

Reports suggest Amal was not present at the accident, but later joined the actor in the hospital.

Clooney is in Italy (aside from the fact that he famously has a home in Lake Como) to shoot a Hulu series in Sardinia.

A hospital official confirmed to NBC that his injuries were not very bad, so the 57-year-old got discharged pretty fast. They were married by Clooney's close friend Walter Veltroni, the former mayor of Rome, in Venice, Italy. The Clooney Center for Justice is working to help the separated families.
