Democratic strategist Joel Payne on Tuesday said President TrumpDonald John TrumpTrump: Democratic voters will support Republicans because of ICE criticism Coney Barrett, Kavanaugh among candidates who met with Trump: report Trump administration recommends against allowing China Mobile access to U.S. market MORE's former personal attorney Michael Cohen may have been using Monday's ABC News interview to signal to Trump that he needs help.

'I am not a villain of this story, and I will not allow others to try to depict me that way, ' he told ABC News.

Mr Cohen also declined to criticise Federal Bureau of Investigation agents who searched his home, hotel room and office in NY, as Mr Trump has done.

Cohen is standing on the edge of a precipice, and in my assessment he's beginning to understand the value of his decades' worth of knowledge regarding the President and the Trump Organization: that it may now hold the keys to his freedom. This interview will raise speculation that Trump's official "fixer" may be prepared to "flip" and cooperate with both prosecutors in NY and investigators looking into Russian election interference in 2016 and alleged collusion between Trump aides and Moscow.

"I don't agree with those who demonize or vilify the FBI", Cohen was quoted as saying. "I respect the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an institution, as well as their agents", Cohen told ABC.

Stephanopoulos said that Cohen, who has not been charged in connection with either probe, came across "as his own man" during the interview and said he will "not be a punching bag" if Trump's team tries to discredit him as part of a legal strategy.

Ryan will be replaced by NY attorney Guy Petrillo, a veteran of the Manhattan federal prosecutor's office, who could open negotiations on Cohen's behalf with his former colleagues.

Friends of Cohen's told CNN last month that he has signaled that he is "willing to give" investigators information on the President if that's what they are looking for.

On May 2, the watchdog organization sought "all records of communications" between Rosenstein and the US attorney's office for the Southern District of NY "about Michael Cohen and/or the executed search warrants of Cohen's office, home, and hotel room", plus "all records of communications" between Mueller and the attorney's office "about Michael Cohen and/or the executed search warrants of Cohen's office, home, and hotel room". Cohen says he's exhausted of Avenatti using the First Amendment as an excuse for his numerous television appearances and social media posts. "I respect the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an institution, as well as their agents".

In a Fox News interview a year ago, Mr. Cohen declared: "I will do anything to protect Mr. Trump". "Simply accepting the denial of Mr. Putin (of not interfering) is unsustainable". I don't want him to shut up, but I'll reserve judgment until he puts up.

"I'm not going to weigh in to this issue and I refer you to outside counsel", she said.

Cohen said his lawyer, Guy Petrillo, would provide guidance on those decisions.

Cohen was asked if he was considering cooperating with prosecutors in their probe. But Cohen told ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos that he respects the prosecutors and the process.

Cohen refused to criticize U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation and he condemned Russian Federation for interfering in the election, the ABC report said.

"Most people will flip if the government lets them out of trouble, even if it means lying or making up stories", Trump said in a April tweet. "I respect our nation's intelligence agencies'. unanimous conclusions", he said, stopping short, however, of siding with those who accuse Moscow of meddling.

"I want to regain my name and my reputation and my life back".
