Brazil knocks out Mexico

Brazil's defender Miranda Marcelo and Neymar take part in a training session on the eve of their 2018 World Cup round of 16 match against Mexico Mexico Boss Lambasts Neymar for 'Clowning Around' as PSG Star's Antics Steal the Show

And neither is Brazil.

"I'm very happy with my performance but even more so with the team's victory", he said. But Brazil's ace Neymar later stole the show by scoring a goal and an assist.

"(Diego) Maradona wasn't acting, (Lionel) Messi doesn't act.

The 26-year-old has received judgement for some of his theatrics when being tackled during the World Cup. And it was the right foot that helped to break through Mexico's stern resistance in Samara. Neymar slid in to tap in the opener in the 51st minute.

And the memes just kept on rolling and rolling and rolling...

"We had control of the match, but to me it is just shameful that so much time could be lost over one player", the Mexico coach said, according to ESPN.

"This is a game of men that is played with intensity and not with so much clowning". It turned out to be pure histrionics.

Opposition midfielder Miguel Layun stepped on Neymar's ankle, causing the Paris Saint-Germain star to roll around on the floor near the two dugouts. But not before trying to step on Layun.

"Neymar to Real?" he said.

"Look, I think it's more an attempt to undermine me than anything else".

England became the last team to qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals after a dramatic penalty shootout as favourites Brazil and fancied France trained their sights on their last-eight opponents.

However, he has faced accusations of diving at this year's World Cup. The last time Mexico reached the quarterfinals was when the country hosted the tournament in 1986.

In the past Brazil would have had Dani Alves and Marcelo tearing upfield from full back, but injury ruled Alves out of the tournament and a hotel mattress (apparently) saw Marcelo start on the bench against Mexico.

This is supposed to be Belgium's golden generation, and perhaps for the first time we are beginning to see why.

However, not everybody found Neymar's behaviour to be unwarranted.

"Neymar was out of action for three and a half months, that is a lot at the top level".

The rapid recovery seemed miraculous. "The players who defend against him make fouls because it's always hard to defend Neymar and take the ball without fouling him".

"I think it's a shame for football", he told reporters.

Matthaeus also blamed Geiger for not punishing players for it. Then Roberto Firmino netted the second goal closer to full-time, securing a win.

Neymar, though, still led the celebrations, charging toward the corner flag.

The Brazilian team faces Belgium on Friday at the Kazan Arena.
