Rajon Rondo Signs One-Year Deal With Lakers

Interestingly, the Lakers inked former Pelicans point guard Rajon Rondo to a one-year, $9 million deal right after the news broke that Randle was no longer part of Los Angeles' plans. Randle had a breakout campaign past year averaging 16.1 points and 8.0 rebounds on 26.7 minutes per game. The Lakers also signed guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, center JaVale McGee and guard Lance Stephenson. Randle was previously informed that if he returned to the Lakers, his role would be "dramatically different" than it was last season, per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. A player option in the second year is included. Rondo walks into a crowded backcourt, which includes Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball. The Lakers added Rondo's quick hands and length, Stephenson's aggressive defense, McGee's length and shot-blocking ability and brought back one of their best defenders from a year ago in Caldwell-Pope.

The floodgates have opened for the Los Angeles Lakers as the news of LeBron James' signing has kicked off a flurry of moves.

By adding Rondo, the Lakers got a skilled ball handler and great defender who is not known as a great perimeter shooter. In doing so, it allowed Los Angeles to match any deal that the talented big man could sign elsewhere. He also played for the Celtics when the Lakers won the 2009-10 championship over Boston in seven. This would change a bit if the Lakers were to trade for Kawhi Leonard, but L.A. would also have to trade salaries in that deal as well.

The Laker experiment this season is going to be fascinating to watch. DeMarcus Cousins, who started 48 games for the Pelicans last year before a season-ending torn Achilles, reportedly joined the Golden State Warriors on a one-year pact later Monday. He had averages of 16.1 points, and 8.0 rebounds, per game. They drafted him seventh overall in 2014, the first of their four consecutive lottery picks.
