MANILA, PHILIPPINES-Basketball's governing body will investigate after a wild brawl between Australia and the Philippines, including Milwaukee Bucks forward Thon Maker, broke out in World Cup qualifying on Monday.

Australia was leading 79-48 with just over four minutes to play in the third period when a foul in the lane halted play.

Australia met the Philippines for a matchup in Group B of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, but the game didn't go as planned.

Australia's Nathan Sobey, Goulding, Maker and Kickert were also ejected. "We are hosting this game, and this is basketball". From the Philippines, Japeth Aguilar, Jeth Rosario, Roger Ray Pogoy, Terrence Bill Romeo, Matthew Wright, Calvin Abueva, Andray Blatche, Carl Bryan Cruz, and Jayson Castro were disqualified. "We are extremely disappointed with what happened and our role in it", Moore said.

A whopping nine players were ejected from the games, meaning that, according to Fox Sports Australia, the game had to continue five-versus-three. Both teams were on their way to moving through to the second round when the brawl erupted.

"We apologise to our fans and will await the penalties to be handed down".

Maker's National Basketball Association and Australian teammate, Matthew Dellavedova, also took part in the game, which ended in a 89-53 Australia win, but wasn't on the court for the brawl.

"No disrespect was intended and the team has since apologized for the error in judgment to Philippines Basketball, the fans, and FIBA", the statement closed.

As there was no immediate threat to the players the game resumed but in a tame form as Fajardo and Norwood fouled softly until they fouled out, thus forcing the game to end.
