Heitkamp says Trump wanted to speak with her about the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Heitkamp, who was previously praised by Trump as a "good woman" before he campaigned against her in North Dakota on Wednesday, said following the meeting that she's still willing to hear him out on his court choice.

Kennedy's retirement, Mr. Trump said, is the reason why the Senate needs more Republicans, not Democrats like Heitkamp. But the president has seemed to have a warmer relationship with Heitkamp than other Democrats - he famously called her a "good woman" during his most recent North Dakota visit past year. "Heidi Heitkamp will be a 'vote no" for whoever he nominates to replace Kennedy because 'she will be told to do so.' He told the crowd that a vote for Heitkamp or any other Democrat in the state is essentially a vote for impeachment-pushing Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters.

Trump has been hitting the road in recent weeks to support Republican candidates, especially those targeting sitting Democrats.

Trump met with the Judiciary Committee chairman, Republican Chuck Grassley of Iowa, plus Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Joe Donnelly of IN and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said IN a tweet.

Following the rally, President Trump will be spending his night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The president met in person with Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; Susan Collins, R-Maine; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; and Joe Donnelly, D-Ind. "Please keep Maxine ... on the air as the mouthpiece of your party". Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

Trump, with his arms spread wide for what appeared a hugging embrace, quickly readjusted his arms right before embracing Cramer. But, referring to the rally, said, "Maybe because of this she will be forced to vote 'yes'".

"Instead she went to Washington and immediately joined Chuck - you know who Chuck is - and Nancy", he told a crowd of almost 6,000 at a Fargo hockey arena.

"We must elect more Republicans, we have to do that", the president said Wednesday night.

"They now have a new leader", he added. "I said I'm not anxious about what's happened in the past, I just want to talk about what we're going to do moving forward", Cramer said. Who's the new leader? Waters's exhortation came after several high-profile incidents last week in which Trump aides, including press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, were confronted at restaurants and forced to leave.

'A slovenly man named Joe Crowley got his ass kicked by a young woman who had a lot of energy, ' Trump said.
