Kushner rips Abbas, says Mideast peace plan due 'soon'

US envoy and Trump son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner says the Trump administration will unveil its Midddle East peace plan soon, with or without the Palestinians.

"There have been countless mistakes and missed opportunities over the years, and you, the Palestinian people, have paid the price", said Kushner, who is on the trip with USA envoy Jason Greenblatt.

Kushner and Greenblatt's trip to Jerusalem followed a regional tour that included Jordan and Egypt - Israel's neighbours and peace partners - and Qatar, a Gulf state that has helped fund humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In the interview, Kushner noted that the Arab leaders "care a lot about the Palestinian people", and that "they want to see a Palestinian State with a capital in East Jerusalem". Palestinians seek east Jerusalem as the capital of a future state. There has been no peace deal achieved in that time.

Kushner encouraged the Palestinian people and their leadership to "be open towards a solution and to not be afraid of trying" and called on both parties to view the deal as a package and consider if they will be better off with what they will receive in exchange for what they choose to give up. "He has his talking points which have not changed in the last 25 years".

"Kushner's interview again illustrates the USA refusal to talk substance, to mention Palestinian rights or a Palestinian state", Erekat told NBC News in a statement released by his office.

"If President Abbas is willing to come back to the table, we are ready to engage", Kushner added.

Israel captured east Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed it in a move not internationally recognized.

Gaza's Health Ministry says 20 Palestinians have been wounded by Israeli fire along the border fence. "They want an agreement that enables the Palestinian people to live in peace, and to have the same economic opportunities that their people enjoy".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Cabinet on Sunday that he met twice with Kushner and Greenblatt this weekend and discussed "how to solve the humanitarian situation in Gaza without strengthening Hamas".

In Jerusalem, he will stay at the King David hotel, which was Britain's administrative headquarters during its rule of Palestine prior to Israeli statehood in 1948.

The duke will also visit Ramallah in the West Bank, where he will focus on issues facing refugee communities, as well as meeting Mr Abbas.

The agency is "weeks away from painful cuts to its emergency assistance for Gaza and elsewhere in the region", UN envoy Nickolay Mladenov said at a UN Security Council meeting this week.

At least 128 Palestinians have been killed. Under these circumstances, American attempts to pressure Palestinians to accept the jaundiced peace plan are bound to backfire.

On Sunday, the IDF revealed evidence demonstrating that the Hamas terror group organizes and carries out kite-based arson attacks originating in the Gaza Strip, refuting claims that the terror activity represents the spontaneous demonstrations of young Gazans.
