William arrived Monday night in the first-ever official visit by a member of the Royal Family to the tumultuous region London once ruled.

"Having a relaxing evening with His Royal Highness Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, after his first day in #OurJordan", Hussein wrote in a caption that accompanied one of two pictures of the pair.

In a statement to launch the trip Kensington Palace had said a day "in the Occupied Palestinian Territories will begin with a short briefing on the history and geography of Jerusalem's Old City from a viewing point at the Mount of Olives".

He will stay in Jerusalem at the King David Hotel, former headquarters of the British administration during the mandate in Palestine before the creation of the State of Israel in 1948.

"I was a six-year-old refugee kid, and here I am giving a book I wrote, to honour my father, basically, to a member of the royal family", he told Reuters.

"It is important to emphasis that the Duke is not a political figure, this is not a political visit", he said.

On Tuesday, he is to lay a wreath at the Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem, before meeting separately with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin.

Just when we were beginning to think Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had Will and Kate beat for cutest royal couple, Prince William swooped in, giving a sweet (and Instagram-era appropriate) tribute to his wife of seven years.

During his visit Yad Vashem, the Duke learnt about the individual stories of Holocaust victims through their possessions and moving testimonies as he paid his respects to the millions killed by the Nazi regime.

Britain captured Palestine from the Ottoman empire in 1917 during World War One and administered the territory under worldwide mandate until 1948, pulling out a day before Israel declared independence.

Later in the week, he'll be travelling to the West Bank, where he will meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah before wrapping up the trip in east Jerusalem to visit his great-grandmother's gravesite.

However, The Sun reported William said she loved her time living in Jordan as a child and commented, "we'll have to bring the kids next time".

William, an avid soccer fan, arrived in Jordan on Sunday afternoon, at a time when the England-Panama World Cup game was under way. He was hosted by Crown Prince Hussein, 23, a member of the Hashemite dynasty Britain helped install in then-Transjordan nearly a century ago.
