Marin Cilic feels in great form ahead of Wimbledon

Kyrgios won through in three sets to continue his fine form on grass Kyrgios won through in three sets to continue his fine form on grass

Marin Cilic has gone from Queen's Club runner-up 12 months ago to being the 2018 champion. I was keeping myself really focused, really composed, patient.

A high-level showdown full of thundering serves boiled down to two tiebreaks in which the ice-cool Cilic proved the more composed player to set up a Sunday showdown with former world No.1 Novak Djokovic.

One break of serve earned Djokovic the first set, but Cilic hit back to take the second and then overpowered Djokovic in the decider.

"I've played some good tennis, have played some tough opponents".

The deadlock in that was broken at 4-4 when, on a second deuce, Cilic used his enormous wingspan to hit a miraculous forehand victor down the line to set up a break point, which was converted when Djokovic netted a straightforward backhand.

"I played a lot of three-setters and a lot of tennis".

Djokovic's performances at the Fever-Tree Championships will no doubt inspire confidence that he could claim a fourth title in SW19 - in what has been his finest tournament since returning from a long-term elbow injury - though his failure to see out this match may well land a mental blow just a week before the main event.

But he banished his nearly-man tag with a gutsy comeback to claim only his second win in 16 attempts against Djokovic, clinching his 18th career ATP title and his first since Istanbul previous year.

But it was the double fault midway through the match which Djokovic feels cost him so dearly.

Marin Cilic outlined his credentials as a potential Wimbledon champion by winning a second title at Queen's. As Nick Kyrgios said before losing against him in the semi-finals, Cilic will be among the favourites at Wimbledon. "And obviously trying to get as many free points on my own serve [as I can]", Djokovic said.

Firing some superb returns, he converted his third set point when Cilic netted a backhand.

He closed out victory in 1 hour, 32 minutes.

Like the world No 8 Kvitova, Rybarikova has fine grass-court pedigree, having reached last year's Wimbledon semi-finals, and it showed in the opener as she seized the advantage.
