Following his historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, President Trump's approval ratings are now at one of the highest points of his presidency.

He said the USA remained "committed to achieving the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation of North Korea".

Pompeo and Wang sounded optimistic about the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula, . but they agreed the scaling down of sanctions can only be on the table when North Korea has completely, verifiably and irreversibly abandoned its nuclear weapons program. On Thursday, North Korean state media broadcasted a 42-minute documentary from the summit, including footage of Trump attempting to shake the officer's hand but saluting him instead.

He noted that the joint statement signed by Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un confirmed an earlier declaration signed in April.

Seoul's Defense Ministry said the talks would focus on carrying out agreements from a summit between Mr Kim and South Korean president Moon Jae-in where they vowed to take materialised steps to reduce military tensions and eliminate the danger of war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday invited North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to visit Russia in September.

On Fox News' "America's Newsroom" Wednesday, Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fl., commented on the role of Congress after President Trump's North Korea summit.

American Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke at a news conference in Seoul with the South Korean and Japanese foreign ministers.

But details on what form those promises would take were sparse, with critics noting the lack of a timeline for when North Korea will begin dismantling its nuclear programme. Conservatives said the move displayed weakness from the US on the world stage.

On Wednesday, Trump declared through a series of tweets that North Korea was no longer a nuclear threat. Measures like the destruction of testing sites in North Korea, if monitored by USA and worldwide experts, could build the kind of trust needed to carry out earnest denuclearization.

The network described it as "an extraordinary display of respect from a U.S. president to a top officer of a hostile regime", and devoted much of its programming on Thursday to it.

Mr Trump's surprise promise to call off military exercises, describing them as expensive and "provocative", delighted North Korea and China but caught key U.S. allies off-guard.

Pompeo also said he's confident that US talks with North Korea will resume "sometime in the next week". That is not going to happen.
