The larger session of the meeting, which took place at the Capella Hotel in Singapore's resort island of Sentosa, was attended by major security and diplomatic aides to Kim and Trump.

Radio host Rush Limbaugh said the mainstream media wanted President Donald Trump's summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to fail, and they were caught completely off guard by the success of the meeting.

In the run-up to the meeting, Trump had predicted the two men might strike a nuclear deal or forge a formal end to the Korean War in the course of a single meeting or over several days.

Donald Trump held the "upper hand" in his historic handshake with Kim Jong-un, according to an expert in languages and linguistics. This makes the scope for misinterpretation even higher.

North Korea and the U.S. have made a decision to "leave the past behind", Pyongyang's leader Kim Jong Un said after his summit with President Donald Trump.

"South Koreans' attitude toward Kim is changing based on the progress of inter-Korean ties as well as the result of US-NK talks", said Gallup Korea analysis.

"Kim Jong-un invited Trump to visit Pyongyang at a convenient time and Trump invited Kim Jong-un to visit the US", KCNA reported.

He said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary James Mattis should oppose the one-on-one meeting "in writing".

The DPRK leader Kim has signed and committed to working towards the total denuclearisation in the Korean peninsula.

And he maintained that President Donald Trump's comments about how successful negotiations were with Kim will impact future talks. "We will meet many times".

Trump said he urged Kim and other North Korean officials to watch a four-minute video produced before the Singapore summit.

The role of the interpretor is based massively on trust, and a Boston Globe report said that 'interpreting for a president doesn't just mean repeating words in different languages; it also means reading the subtleties that both sides are expressing in their words and then accurately conveying those to the president'.

Asked by reporters if he would invite him to Washington, Trump said: "Absolutely, I would".
