North Korean leader Kim Jong-un arrives in Singapore on Sunday.

While access to the historic summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will be tightly restricted, hundreds of Singaporeans got the next best thing on Saturday when two lookalikes showed up at a downtown mall.

Trump arrived a few hours after Kim on Air Force One, directly from a tumultuous G7 summit in Quebec, which ended in a bitter personal exchange between the U.S. president and the host, the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

North Korea's official media have reported that leader Kim Jong Un is in Singapore to meet President Donald Trump to discuss how to forge a new relationship.

Choi's fiery outburst at Trump's national security adviser, John Bolton, and Vice President Mike Pence a fortnight ago was blamed for Trump suddenly, and briefly, cancelling the summit.

A U.S. official said Monday that after a handshake scheduled for 9 am Tuesday, Trump and Kim will first meet one on one with translators in a session that could last up to two hours before they open the meeting to their respective advisers.

Trump hopes to persuade Kim to completely abandon the arsenal of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles that the North Koreans have spent more than a generation amassing.

The fighting ended on July 27, 1953, but the war technically continues today because instead of a difficult-to-negotiate peace treaty, military officers for the USA -led United Nations, North Korea and China signed an armistice that halted the fighting.

From Pyongyang, the North's official media Monday carried comparatively detailed reports on leader Kim Jong-un's visit to Singapore, including his arrival date and plan to hold his first meeting with Trump on Tuesday.

Footage showed the bodyguards jogging next to the vehicle, complete with tinted windows and two large North Korean flags fluttering on the hood, as they escorted Kim to the closely guarded St. Regis Hotel where he is staying.

Kim is scheduled to begin a summit Tuesday with President Trump. Trump said on June 1 that "We're not going to go in and sign something on June 12 and we never will", noting that the summit was about "start [ing] a process".

Later, Kim met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at Lee's office in the sprawling palace known as the Istana.

Trump landed at 8:21 Sunday evening at the island city-state's Paya Lebar Air Base, traveling from Canada, where he attended a meeting of the Group of Seven Nations.

A US official says Monday that the leaders will meet for up to two hours before an expanded bilateral meeting with their respective advisers.

After North Korea carried out a series of long-range missile tests that potentially put the United States mainland in range of a nuclear strike, Trump promised to respond with "fire and fury".

Trump, who is staying in a separate hotel, the Shangri-La, is due to meet Lee on Monday. "I think we can presume that North Korea made more demands to Singapore than the United States did in terms of security". "This says something about Singapore's relations with America and North Korea, and also our standing in the worldwide community".

North Korean state media has confirmed that the leaders of North Korea and the U.S. will focus on ensuring permanent peace and a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula in Singapore.
