Amazon's Prime Video service will air two rounds of live matches each season in Britain - not internationally - in a three-year deal from 2019, representing 20 games each season during a midweek program in early December and another around Christmas.

Overall, the total pot of central revenues - domestic and global broadcast rights and sponsorship deals - will be distributed on a 1.8:1 basis, meaning the champions will earn 80 per cent more than the team that finishes last from 2019-20 onward.

"In contrast, the Premier League will be delighted with this outcome after having secured a leading online giant.
With Amazon's rival, this could well be the last time that both BT and Sky own the live Premier League rights in the United Kingdom, with Richard Scudamore keen to attract more online players to the table", said Pescatore.

But Sky said after the auction in February that it had paid £3.58 billion ($5.8 billion) over three years for its matches, while BT Sport paid a total of £885 million.

The big six clubs - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham - managed to get the necessary 14 votes out of the 20 to agree that from 2019/20, any increase in the current global rights package, will be distributed according to league position and not equally distributed between all 20 clubs as it has been up to now.

What games will it be?

Amazon's purchase of the twenty Premier League games was only one package.

The Premier League is easing into doling out fixtures to streaming video.

How can you watch the games?

"Prime Video continues to drive Prime member adoption and retention", Bezos wrote. It's a big deal for Amazon because Prime Video, which is online only, will be the only place in the United Kingdom to watch certain matches from the most popular league in the world's most popular sport.

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore said the league's revenue sharing remained the most equitable in Europe but it was time to amend an agreement dating back to 1992.

However, Amazon's foray into Premier League broadcasting should not be seen as a long-term threat to Sky and BT, Liberum media analyst Iain Whittaker insisted. Anyone who has watched a game on their phone before knows the pain of buffering after a cross into the box. Sky holds the rights to broadcast 128 matches, while BT has 52.

In contrast, the Premier League will be delighted with this outcome after having secured a leading online giant.

The Premier League have also released details of the rights deals for the Republic of Ireland.

Amazon Prime already broadcasts live sports, such as the US Open tennis and NFL American football.

"The development of Amazon Prime service is a longer-term strategy to try to reduce the number of illegal streaming sights and push people to pay for subscriptions".
