Other new features include parental controls to limit the time children spend in apps, as well as which apps they can use. The Facebook Pixel that allows websites to "optimise" data about individuals is on a further 2.2 million sites.

To monitor and control children's screen time, parents will need to connect their device to their child's device using Family Sharing, an Apple service that allows parents to monitor and control their kids' phone habits. As is now tradition, the company showed off the latest version of iOS at the event (iOS 12), delivering plenty of new features to the platform.

A new Do Not Disturb during Bedtime mode will dim the phone's display and hide all notifications on the lock screen until you prompt it in the morning.

The company's latest iOS update brings a host of new features.

Some believe that the new feature has been developed for a future iPad that will forgo Touch ID in favor of Face ID but it will hopefully stick around on the iPhone X as well. It now supports third-party navigation apps, so users can change if they don't like Apple Maps. Adobe will also add native USDZ support for Creative Cloud suite.

Set for full release this fall, the company's mobile operating system is now in developer preview, with a public beta expected later this month. Texting is more fun in iOS 12, too.

Photos is the next big iOS 12 feature Apple is showing off, expanding search in an effort to compete with Google.

FaceTime will be able to host 32 video tiles at once, with the tiles expanding and shrinking depending on who's talking. It'll be available on the Apple Watch Series 1 and later, so anyone with an original Apple Watch will remain on watchOS 4.

It's also thought Apple will be focusing on making its popular operating system even more stable and secure.

Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook speaks at the Apple Worldwide Developer conference in San Jose, Calif., on June 4, 2018.

There are four new animated emoji characters that respond to your facial expressions: ghost, koala, tiger and a T-rex.

After years of working to make the smartphone indispensable ― some might even say addictive ― Apple said Monday that it will soon provide an app created to help people step away from the iPhone.

Recent scrutiny over privacy concerns were also addressed, with Mr Federighi discussing updates to the macOS software which powers its laptops.

These buttons can track users around the internet, as can some comment widgets, which Apple is also blocking in the update.

Using the new Siri Shortcuts app, iPhone owners can build customized actions for Siri to perform upon hearing a given command. DND is also easy to activate in various forms from the Control Center.
