Indian health officials were checking on Wednesday if a rare, brain-damaging virus had spread to a second state after two suspected cases reported in southern Karnataka, as the death toll in adjacent Kerala, where the outbreak began, rose to 11.

Officers of the Health Department, Animal Husbandry Department and Forest Department arrived at the Burma Papadi School, following a directive from the Deputy Commissioner, and took samples from the dead bats for further investigation. Sorry. Take care of our Children.

The villagers also fear a repeat of the five dengue fever deaths that were reported in the area a year ago.

This apart, in order to control the spread of Nipah Virus, the Government of India is taking several steps while efforts are focused on surveillance and spreading awareness for risk assessment and management of the disease.

A nurse who treated one of Moosa's sons also died, leaving a heart-wrenching note for her family.

The outbreak of Nipah virus, which has resulted in the death of ten people in Kerala, is also likely to have an adverse impact on India's fruit exports.

Nipah virus infection in humans has a range of clinical presentations, from asymptomatic infection to acute respiratory syndrome and fatal encephalitis.

The presence of the Nipah virus was confirmed after tests conducted on Sabith's brother Muhammed Salih, who died on May 18. A health department official said the distribution of protective gear in hospitals began on May 19.

At least eight people who have had contact with the sick are being kept in isolation, in their homes, so their conditions can be monitored, officials say.

The natural host of the virus is believed to be fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family, Pteropus genus.

"We have opened a control room and we are always on the alert and we are doing everything possible to keep things under check".

The Collector said that the advisory has been issued by the hospitals to their staff and a press release has been given to them. Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja said, "The entire expenditure of these patients would be borne by the state and there need not be any panic over bats". Some 50 people died in the first two outbreaks.

Nipah, which the World Health Organisation describes as a "newly emerging zoonosis that causes severe disease in both animals and humans" has killed over 260 people in India, Bangladesh and Malaysia since it was first detected in 1998.
