Harvey Weinstein arrested in NY on rape, criminal sex act charges

Rose McGowan Harvey Weinstein Turns Himself in to Police to Face Sex Crime Charge in NYC

Weinstein's arraignment came two days after Palmer dropped a new single, "Mr. Weinstein Will See You Now", a searing critique of the once-powerful producer who's faced a wave a sexual harassment and assault allegations from dozens of women.

The accusations, first reported by the New York Times and the New Yorker previous year, gave rise to the #MeToo movement in which hundreds of women have publicly accused powerful men in business, government and entertainment of misconduct.

"I would point out what the women and certainly that New Yorker story that Lucia Evans was featured in accusing Harvey Weinstein was not the casting couch", Farrow said. He was released through a $1-million bail bond and is not allowed to flee the country until his hearing in July.

Weinstein also surrendered his passport and agreed to stay within the states of NY and CT.

Harvey Weinstein turned himself in to the NY police on Friday.

He stepped out of a black SUV, clutching several books, among them what appeared to be the Rodgers and Hammerstein biography "Something Wonderful" and a book on director Elia Kazan, and looked glum as he walked up the steps into the station.

After sexual assault charges were dropped against former International Monetary Fund Chairman Dominique Strauss-Kahn in 2011, his lawyer Ben Brafman assailed the accuser's credibility, telling Reuters: "This encounter was quick, it was consensual and she was a willing participant".

This is the first time Weinstein has been slapped with charges since the controversial accusations first surfaced last October.

Evans says Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex in his office in 2004. The initial investigations into Weinstein have created massive ripple effects in the film industry and many other industries, and across the world. He has been expelled by the Oscar-awarding Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and sacked by his own studio, The Weinstein Company, which has since filed for bankruptcy.

On Megyn Kelly Today, when asked what she would like to say to Weinstein if he might be listening, McGowan said, "We got you".

She also says her "brave and lovely client has sacrificed her privacy and peace to come forward" and asks that she be left alone. He consented to electric monitoring and is banned from traveling outside of NY or CT.

Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi said, "The defendant is charged with two violent felonies. for two separate forcible sexual assaults against two women", and noted that the charges were the result of "months of investigation".

Weinstein's lawyer said in a May court filing that federal prosecutors in NY had opened a separate criminal investigation into the allegations. He said the cases against Weinstein were "legally defective or factually not supported".

The First Police Precinct station house, where Mr. Weinstein was arrested, was not unfamiliar to him. The district attorney said his decision was based on the merits of the case.

Weinstein has been released on bail, but has been told he can not travel outside CT and NY.

NY authorities have been investigating the disgraced producer for months, under growing pressure from Hollywood actresses to bring him to justice, and their probes are ongoing.

Weinstein was formally charged with rape and other acts of sexual misconduct.

"The first Bill Cosby trial ended in a mistrial".
