Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has criticised his country for letting militant groups cross the border and commit terror attacks like the one in Mumbai in 2008.

Without naming Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed and Maulana Masood Azhar's militant organisations - Jamaat-ud-Dawah and Jaish-e-Mohammad - operating in the country, Mr. Sharif said, "Militant organisations are active in Pakistan". "Why can't we complete the trial?" said Sharif in an interview to the Dawn newspaper on Saturday.

Highlighting the foreign policy vision, the CM said, "Pakistan believes in a policy of peace within and overseas and has always join hands with the world community in peace efforts in the region and across the world".

Although he chose to describe Kasab and others as " non-state actors", he also seemed to acknowledge the complicity of government agencies in letting the Lashkar terrorists reach Mumbai. "We have isolated ourselves".

Ousted PM was disqualified from holding public office for life by Pakistan Supreme Court over corruption allegations past year.

"Militant organizations are active". Explain it to me. He indicated that his country should look into why its narrative that it had been fighting terrorism had not been accepted by the global community "despite sacrifices".

Yousaf Raza Gillani was Pakistan PM in 2008 when the Mumbai attack took place in which 166 people were killed in the attack carried out by 10 LeT men. Afghanistan's narrative is being accepted, but ours is not. Sharif asked, referring to the masterminds of the Mumbai massacre that nearly brought India and Pakistan to war. "We must look into it". "Why can't we complete the trial?"
