Ireland's Very First Ball In Test Cricket Was A Dramatic One

But Shadab Khan (52 not out) and Faheem Ashraf (61no) excelled before play stopped again to put a dampener on another soggy day for Ireland. The pair had so far added an unbroken 109 for the seventh wicket after Pakistan had been struggling at 159 for six after losing the toss following a total washout on Friday's first day of this stand-alone match.

At tea, Tim Murtagh and fellow pacemen Rankin and Stuart Thompson had taken two wickets each.

Azhar lobbed to Ireland captain Will Porterfield at second slip and his opening partner was then trapped lbw by Tim Murtagh.

Earlier, Ireland won the toss and made a decision to bowl first against Pakistan in the historic match.

Diving to make his crease as Tyrone Kane tried to throw down the stumps, Imam - nephew of Pakistan great Inzamam - collided with the onrushing wicketkeeper Niall O'Brien.

Former England global Boyd Rankin (1-7 off seven overs) had the honour of taking Ireland's first-ever Test wicket with Azhar (4) edging him to second slip.

Imam did not last much longer as he departed the next ball, leaving Ireland jubilant and Pakistan in trouble at 13-2.

Pakistan team is in good form as it won the tour match against Northamptonshire with 9 wickets.

But it did not take long for Ireland to make a stunning double strike.

That left Pakistan 13 for one off the last ball of the eighth over.

After a few near run-outs, Pakistan's third-wicket duo settled in.

Shafiq square-cut Kane for four, with left-hander Haris glancing Thompson for a legside boundary.

After a brief delay, Imam was able to carry on, with no wicket lost.

Babar Azam (14), pushing hard at a Murtagh delivery that left him off the pitch, was well-held by Paul Stirling at second slip.

Shafiq began to steady the Pakistan ship and reached his 50 from 107 balls after the restart.

But Shadab and Faheem turned the tide in style.

The teams went to lunch without a ball bowled in the grounds of Malahide Castle, just north of Dublin.

Bad light saw the players leave the field at 5:27pm local time (1627 GMT) and 20 minutes later, after a thunderclap and a heavy downpour, play was abandoned for the day.
