Judd, who was among the first women to publicly speak out about Weinstein's behavior previous year to The New York Times, notes that since the Weinstein story broke, "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson said Weinstein discouraged him from casting Judd.

Ashley Judd has sued Harvey Weinstein, saying he hurt her acting career in retaliation for her rejecting his sexual advances.

Judd is suing Weinstein for defamation, sexual harassment, intentional interference with prospective economic advantage and unfair competition.

Judd and Sorvino were among the first women to come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against Weinstein back in October 2017. When she turned him down, the suit alleges, Weinstein set out to damage her career.

Judd was the first actress to be named on the record with her account of Weinstein's widely alleged predation over the decades.

Director Peter Jackson told New Zealand outlet Stuff in December that he was forced by Weinstein to blacklist Judd for a role in The Lord of the Rings.

According to the complaint, Weinstein told Jackson and his creative partner that Judd was a "nightmare" to work with and should be avoided "at all costs".

A spokesperson for the movie executive told The New Yorker in a prior statement: "Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein".

"I lost career opportunity".

"Ms Judd reasonably believed that Weinstein meant to physically assault her", Mr Boustrous wrote.

Instead, the statement said, Weinstein "championed" Judd's work and "repeatedly approved her casting for two of his movies" - "Frida" in 2002 starring Salma Hayek, and "Crossing Over" with Harrison Ford in 2009. "One of the things we say a lot in Time's Up is 'women of all kinds" because you often hear the phrase 'women and people of colour.' Well, we ARE women". "No person - in whatever job, in whatever industry - should have to forfeit professional aspirations and the right to earn a living to the abusive whims of the powerful".

The lawsuit filed by Judd on Monday laid out a pattern of retaliatory behavior by Weinstein against actresses who rebuffed his sexual advances - what California courts have described as "me too" evidence in employment cases.
