Saudi citizen killed in Houthi missile attack

Saudi Arabia finances all US colonial policies in Middle East beyond AFP : Strike kills dozens of Yemen rebels including commanders

The Saudi state-run news agency SPA said its air defence forces intercepted four of the missiles and no casualties or damages occurred.

An airstrike in Sanaa on Friday night killed two Shia (Houthi) rebel leaders and dozens of their militiamen as they held a high-level meeting, Saudi state media reported early Saturday.

Houthi rebel leader Abdul-Malek al-Houthi vowed to avenge al-Samad's death. Saudi Arabia is leading a coalition in support of the exiled Yemeni government against Iranian backed militias.

Saudi Arabia's civil defense directorate says one person has been killed by "shrapnel" from a ballistic missile attack by Yemen's Shiite rebels known as Houthis.

Saudi Arabia backs Yemen's internationally recognized government and aims to defeat the Iran-backed Houthis to restore the government to power.

The alliance imposed a total blockade on Yemen's ports in November in retaliation for the rebel missile attacks.

Saudi Arabia often claims that it intercepts incoming Yemeni missiles, but a close study of evidence by The New York Times a year ago clearly suggested that in one of the most high-profile of such Yemeni missile attacks, the projectile, launched deep into Saudi territory, had in fact landed unimpeded, bypassing American-made Patriot missiles and potentially other defenses used by Riyadh.

Al-Samad was killed alongside his six bodyguards by Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on his residence in the port city of Hudaydah on April 19.

The Yemen conflict is widely seen as a proxy war between regional titans Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya television said the overnight strike had targeted the interior ministry in Sanaa, which is controlled by the rebels.

Activists reported last December that Houthi rebels had gained control of the majority of Yemen's capital after battling forces loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who was killed by Houthi fighters as he fled Sanaa.

The Saudi-led countries engaged in the war on Yemen have also blockaded the already-impoverished country.
