A source told TheCable that seven persons were killed in the incident which happened two days after two priests and 17 church members were shot dead at a Catholic church in Gwer west local government area of the state.

He said the people who were already displaced were taken refuge in African Church and LGEA primary School, Mondo.

One of them, Shaapera Nyon, said the attackers came at about 5a.m while most people were still asleep.

The Christian body said the protest should be peaceful and done within premises of churches.

The newspaper also reports that seven people were killed in Ihuman village in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The wounded have been transferred to a hospital Makurdi.

CAN called on Chrisians to protest peacefully in churches on Sunday against the killings.

The statement said the protest will be aimed at canvassing government's increased commitment towards the release of abducted Dapchi student, Leah Sharibu, Chibok girls as well as other innocent Nigerians held captive by the Boko Haram group.

Intersociety recalled that the marauding Fulani herdsmen recognised in Nigerian laws as Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has President Muhammadu Buhari as their grand national patron.

"Christians are to carry placards with different inscriptions meant to address issues about sustained killings, attacks and destruction of their property in Nigeria", the reverend said.

The cleric admonished the government to perform its constitutional responsibility of protecting the citizens, noting that no excuse is tenable for the bloodshed, stressing that the perpetrators must be brought to book.

It attributed the continued killings to the failure of the government to mount an effective campaign against the attacks, killings by the herdsmen, noting that there was equally no visible plan to pacify the aggrieved. The statement, titled: Imminent Extinction Of Christianity & Rise Of Islamic Caliphate In Southern And Old Middle-Belt Nigeria & Lessons From Global Killing Of 270m Christians & Ors Since 622AD By Political Islam, also catalogued the killing in the name of Islam around the world dated back to 622 AD or past 1400yrs.
