Missiles fired from warships and jets hit a scientific facility in the vicinity of Damascus, which the coalition claimed was involved in the production of chemical and biological weapons, as well as a former missile base west of Homs and Al-Dumayr air base east of the Syrian capital. An alleged gas attack last weekend in the town of Douma killed more than 40 people, according to opposition activists and rescuers.

The U.S., Canada and their allies have largely dismissed Damascus's denials and said the strikes were necessary, but have not said how they know that the Syrian government was responsible for the chemical-weapon attacks.

It said the "precise, overwhelming and effective" military strike in Syria by US, France and Britain were meant to send a clear message that the use of chemical weapons against its own civilians is inexcusable. He added, "So proud of our great Military which will soon be, after the spending of billions of fully approved dollars, the finest that our Country has ever had".

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua, Makni said the strike has reflected that a tactical maneuver, which was against the epicenter of the Syria-Russia-Iran triangular alliance that manages to suppress rebel armed groups.

In a separate interview, Haley told CBS News that new sanctions against Russian Federation, which has forces in Syria supporting the Assad regime, would be announced Monday that would "go directly to any sort of companies that were dealing with equipment related to Assad and chemical weapons use".

The United Arab Emirates, UAE, has voiced its deep concern at the escalating developments in the Syrian arena and expressed its condemnation of the use of chemical weapons against civilians.

On Saturday, the UN Security Council overwhelmingly rejected a Russian resolution calling for condemnation of "aggression" by the three allies.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has indicated new economic sanctions will be announced Monday against Russian Federation for enabling Assad's government to continue using chemical weapons.

Essia Atrous, the chief editor at the Arabophone Tunisian newspaper "Assabah" (The Morning), said the USA attacks on Syria were not a surprise.

And she said President Donald Trump told her Saturday morning that if the Syrian regime uses poisonous gas again "the United States is locked and loaded" to strike again.

Here are statements from some Congressional Leaders regarding the United State's joining France and Great Britain in conducting these attacks.

"When our president draws a red line, our president enforces the red line".

"Yes, where you see the smoke", he said.

Russian Federation said on Saturday it would consider supplying S-300 surface to-air missile systems to Syria following the Western strikes, but this was not discussed at the meeting with Assad, agencies reported.

The Syrian government has denied using chemical weapons, accusing Western powers of falsely accusing them to "prepare the ground for aggression" against the country.

Notably, the bombing occurred just hours before the UN's Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) experts were set to carry out an on-site inspection in Douma on Saturday to establish whether chemical weapons had been used there. I support President Trump's limited action to target chemical weapons facilities and hold this brutal regime accountable.
