Seahawks 'postpone' Colin Kaepernick audition over anthem protest stance

Colin Kaepernick's hope of an NFL comeback looked flat after the Seattle Seahawks canceled a planned workout when Kaepernick informed the team that he would not stop kneeling during the national anthem next year. The Seahawks are still weighing whether to bring Kaepernick in, and no final decisions have been made, a source said to ESPN.

Seattle could look to add a veteran behind Wilson in order to potentially replicate what the Eagles got out of Nick Foles a year ago. Why would he give up his beliefs and his cache as a minor progressive protest icon to go sit on the bench behind Russell Wilson for a mediocre Seahawks team? After all, this comes on the heels of the Cincinnati Bengals not signing free agent safety Eric Reid.

Seattle also had concerns about his plans for the future, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

With that in mind, it seems quite unlikely that Kaepernick will suddenly forget his protest if he ever gets another National Football League job.

One high-ranking NFL official told me Monday that these owners meetings and subsequent ones are all about "moving the needle" toward no national anthem protests by the players.

Kaepernick has been out of a job since the end of the 2016 season, with no team picking him up after the quarterback parted ways with the San Francisco 49ers.

Jones has been a leading critic of the anthem protests.

A few hours later, Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Chris Long - a vocal supporter of many protesting players, including Eagles teammate Malcolm Jenkins - took to Twitter to criticize the chain of events that led to Kap's workout cancellation.

Kaepernick has a pending lawsuit alleging collusion by the league office, owners and teams to keep him out of the NFL.

Kaepernick has been a free agent since last March when the 49ers did not pick up his contract option.

It's ironic that the Seahawks are experiencing the wrath of Kaepernick supporters despite being the only team that has seriously engaged the possibility of signing Kaepernick - not once, it seems, but twice.
