The number of Canadians signing up to become organ donors following the tragic bus crash in Saskatchewan that killed fifteen people has risen dramatically. Fourteen others were seriously injured.

Late Saturday, a friend of the Boulet family posted on social media that the 21-year-old's "strong heart continues to beat", allowing a surgical team from the University of Alberta hospital to travel to Saskatoon.

"These actions alone give voice to the selfless and benevolent nature Logan possessed in life for others", Langevin stated. The organ transplant procedures were scheduled to begin early Sunday morning. "Now, as a part of pilot project, we are trying to educate and reel-in young students for which we have talked to MUHS that has agreed to support our ambitious campaign to rope in students to donate their organs", Dr. Pravin Shingare, the Director of DMER told the Free Press Journal. "We're there from the beginning of the process to as much as two years out or longer for families that want to keep in contact with us or want to come to events that honor those donors". As representatives of the health sector, registration of potential donors became much more active after Friday's disaster.

In British Columbia, 363 people have registered their decisions online since Friday evening, a BC Transplant spokesperson said in an email, compared to 59 registrations over the weekend of March 24 and 25, which is more typical. "The organs and tissues of youngsters are recommended for transplant", he said.

"The only thing that gets in the way is procrastination", she said. "You never know when this kind of tragedy could happen to you". According to Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN), every three days someone will die without one.

"Logan actually acted, he did not procrastinate - he is truly a hero". "His legacy will go on and on as an example to all Canadians of the importance of thinking about giving the gift of life today". It now has 900 people on the waiting list.

There now are more than 120,000 men, women and children waiting for organ transplants in the United States, and every 10 minutes, another person is added to the waiting list, according to the organization's website.

For the first year ever, more than 1,500 people in the United Kingdom donated their organs after they died, with the number rising by 11 percent over the previous year.

And according to Midwest Transplant Network's research, 95 percent of people across the USA support the concept of organ donation, yet only about 54 percent are registered.

Gavsie adds that one organ donor can save the lives of eight people.

"There can be a gift in this sorrowful time", Gavsie said.

"The increase in donations and transplants is made possible thanks to the generosity of donors and their families".
