Roma knock Barca out of UCL with stunning comeback; Liverpool into semis

Roma vs Barcelona LIVE: Updates from Champions League clash Roma dump Barcelona out after miracle comeback

Roma pulled off one of the biggest shocks in Champions League history last night when they overturned a three-goal first-leg deficit to reach the semi-finals at the expense of Barcelona. It was a bad day for us because couldn't overcome their pressure.

"It's hard to accept this elimination because we had a lot of hope for this season and once again it has escaped us", said Barca captain Andres Iniesta.

In England, Liverpool completed the job against Manchester City, as they picked up another win at the Etihad Stadium to seal a spot in the last four of the Champions League.

They join PSG and AC Milan (eliminated by Deportivo La Coruna in 2004) as the only teams to have been knocked out after winning the first leg by at least three goals.

Roma last reached the last four of Europe's premier club competition in 1983-84 when they lost to Liverpool in the final, and they will now fancy their chances against anyone - including the Reds and former star Mohamed Salah, who defeated Manchester City in Tuesday's other quarter-final.

Walter Pandiani, Juan Carlos Valeron and Albert Luque had Depor ahead on away goals before half-time, with Fran Gonzalez - who played for them in the second division in the late 80s and is still their record appearance holder - fittingly scored the fourth to make sure of their passage.

"He (Pep Guardiola) took all the risks and it was his decision and it could've been the absolute right one, it's easy to say afterwards. The only thing I regret was today was a match in which we had a great opportunity and we didn't seize it".

Roma tackled their task with gusto but their quest for goals immediately left gaping holes at the back and Messi's pass freed Sergi Roberto for the game's first opening, Alisson smothering a low drive.

Suarez was so frustrated at times for not receiving enough balls that he slammed both hands on the pitch on one occasion.

It was Roma's first entry to the semifinals of the Champions League since 1982/83 season.

Roma substitute Stephan El Shaarawy had a chance at Roma's third in the 79th but Ter Stegen produced a brilliant save to deny the striker from close range.

Greece defender Manolas stole the headlines when he headed the decisive goal seven minutes from time.

Valverde waited until the final 10 minutes to use all three of his substitutions.

"I really think they are the best team in the world at the moment", Klopp said of City.

According to Ivan San Antonio of the same outlet, Valverde had a similar message: "We're sorry for them, for the disappointment".
