According to local police, Mark Dombroski, 19, was last seen early Sunday morning at The Dog House bar in Hamilton.

"The Saint Joseph's University community is heartbroken tonight to learn from the Bermuda Police Services (BPS) in Hamilton that student Mark Dombroski has died".

"There is concern for his well being", the police said in a statement, The Inquirer reported, adding that officials hadn't provided details on whether the St. Joseph's University freshman was believed to be in danger.

It is reported that a number of USA colleges participated in the tournament, including Notre Dame, Kutztown University, Ohio State, and Ithaca College.

Organisers of the tournament had offered a $US1,000 reward for information about Dombroski's whereabouts.

Dombroski was competing in a tournament with the school's rugby team and was last seen at a bar early Sunday. Authorities have been with her family "shoulder-to-shoulder throughout this ordeal", she said.

"We dearly love our son, we cherish our son", Lisa Dombroski said.

A Pennsylvania college student who disappeared following a rugby tournament in Bermuda was found dead Monday after an intensive search of the British island territory.

Authorities also appealed for help from taxi drivers who had been shuttling players back and forth from the Regiment camp, and tried locating Dombroski by his cellphone, which the surveillance footage showed him using. Bermuda police are asking anyone with more information to contact them here.

Saint Joseph's issued a statement saying it "continues to pray for his safe return".
