Relief for Wenger as Arsenal finally win

Arsenal In their last four games Arsenal have lost to Ostersunds FK Brighton and twice to Manchester City

Under-fire Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was relieved after his side's impressive 2-0 Europa League last 16, first-leg victory at AC Milan on Thursday, following a "nightmare" week.

Arsenal showed "cojones" in the Europa League win at Milan on Thursday - something the Watford captain, Troy Deeney, accused them of lacking at Vicarage Road in October.

"We can still have our say in the second leg and I don't know why people think we're going to London just for a vacation". "All I can tell you is that we are no closer to sorting anything out", he said.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Sunday afternoon's (Monday morning AEDT) match against Watford, Wenger conceded he has felt the strain of late, with Manchester United great Ferguson - a man who once revelled in inflicting misery upon the Frenchman - one of a host of colleagues to offer kind words.

Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny were in much better form last night so let's hope they can build on their displays in the Europa League.

"That doesn't look likely, but we need to be ready to pounce if they do".

"Judgement is judgement, we have to focus on the quality of our game".

"Milan was our best performance in a while, definitely". The crowd gets up - "Yeah, we've got somebody who can win it" - and they all just backed off.

"Now we must move on and bounce back". "Then you can get anyone in the draw and we will see from there".

"Arsenal are in a very hard period, but are a great team, but we made too many mistakes", said Gattuso. Hector Bellerin, since being benched for the Brighton clash and having missed the AC Milan game hasn't yet recovered from the knee ligament problem, hence would be absent for the Watford game.

Watford's injury list dwarfs the Arsenal list, as the Hornets have a long list of players out injured and are unlikely to play any part against Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger claimed Arsenal's spirit has carried them through a traumatic period after Sunday's 3-0 win over Watford eased a little of the pressure on the beleaguered boss. "I can not say anything more because there is nothing to say about it and I do not want to offend Arsene, whom I adore and for whom I have a lot of respect". "You want to make 30 million people happy and that is what I care about".

"You understand very well that if I responded to every single statement in the country I would already be mad - I am mad anyway, maybe, but I would be even more mad".
