Kentucky withstands Tennessee rally to win SEC Tournament championship

Even with the disappointment of not being able to break a 39-year drought, the Vols have plenty left on their plate as they prepare for their first NCAA Tournament trip in three years. The Volunteers finished 17 for 28 from the free-throw line, but outrebounded the Bulldogs 50-33, limited them to just one assist and hauled in 22 offensive boards.

I still think Tennessee is the team I trust most in the SEC, but there's just something about Kentucky in the conference tournament.

The championship is the 31st in tournament history for the fourth-seeded Wildcats (24-10), who have won seven of their past eight games since a four-game losing streak last month.

The second-seeded Volunteers (24-7) led almost the entire game, but the Bulldogs (22-11) had an opportunity to take the lead in the final 10 seconds.

Since then, Kentucky has won six of seven, including all three of its SEC Tournament games. Admiral Schofield led the scoring for Tennessee with 20. Grant Williams chipped in 15. Tennessee will face the victor of the game between those two on Saturday.

United Kingdom went to the locker room ahead 36-31.

After Tennessee took and missed a quick and questionable three-point shot, it was Sacha Killeya-Jones' turn to be in the right spot at the right time.

Bowden missed a three on the next possession and Kentucky raced the other way where Gabriel put up a three that was off the mark. United Kingdom drew back in front by as many as 9 after Green converted on 2 free throws and Knox put in a lay up courtesy of a PJ Washington steal.

Jordan Bone banked in a three-pointer from the left corner - you read that right - to bring Tennessee within 68-67.

Play was paused for about 10 minutes as trainers and medical staff assisted Weatherspoon.

United Kingdom is 32-10 in SEC Tournament finals.

If Kentucky's win against Alabama wasn't the Wildcats' best performance of the season, it probably wasn't too far off.

The Kentucky Wildcats will take on the Tennessee Volunteers in the SEC Tournament Championship Final game on Sunday, start time at 12:00 PM ET, at Capital One Arena, Washington, DC.

Tennessee made 11 of its first 12 shots from the field and shot a torrid 76% (19-for-25) in building a 48-29 halftime cushion.

However, Tennessee has been excellent at defending the perimeter this season, so it won't be as easy for John Calipari's squad to make that type of impact from beyond the arc.

United Kingdom made seven three-pointers against Tennessee after making 12 in the Wildcats' win over Alabama in the SEC semifinals.

The Volunteers would hit some timely shots to keep Arkansas from making a run, as 11 is as close the Razorbacks could get in the second half.

Gilgeous-Alexander all but showed United Kingdom could not miss when he beat the shot clock by banking in a three-pointer from the top of the key.
