Elizabeth Warren Is Asked About Being Called 'Pocahontas' By Trump

"So look, I am not running for president of the United States", Warren said, per the Boston Globe.

Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of MA says she has no intention of running for president in 2020, but she also is leaving herself room to reconsider.

"The way I see it, at the end of the day, what the people of MA said is they cared a whole lot more about their families than they did about my background", she said. But Warren is also unpopular enough in Massachusets that she doesn't want to give her opponents any more ammo by announcing that she wants to move on.

"Native American women are subjected to sexual violence at rates much higher than any other group in our country", Warren said. "I did not mention her Native American connection because I did not know about it".

Trump derisively refers to Warren as "Pocahontas" to mock her claim about being part American Indian.

"I know who I am".

Despite winning the 2012 election, Warren has continued to address questions raised about her heritage in 2018. I never used my family tree to get a break or get ahead. Host Chuck Todd pointed out a recent Massachusetts' newspaper editorial that called upon the supposed Native American to take a $99 DNA test sample.

The latest interest in questioning whether or not Warren has her sights set on a 2020 run is the result of Donald Trump, who mentioned that "ratings" would go down if her or Bernie Sanders were to run for president at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Warren reiterated her initial claim, adding that she has "no intention" of running for president.

"I know who I am, and never used [my heritage] for anything, never got any benefit from it anywhere", she said on "Meet the Press". She said "no one" could take that away from her.

Trump's tariffs, which he announced last Thursday, were met with swift opposition from numerous president's fellow Republicans who say they will harm the economy.

In an op-ed titled, "Taking a DNA test could solve at least one of Elizabeth Warren's political problems", Vennochi took a pot shot at Trump as she acknowledged that the issue must be dealt with.
