With fans making up 50 percent of the voting (active National Basketball Association players and National Basketball Association media make up 25 percent each), it's likely James and Curry will be the team captains under the new All-Star setup.
The fan vote makes up 50 percent of the overall vote for the All-Star Game, which is scheduled February 18 in Los Angeles.
In the Western Conference, Durant (1,326,059), New Orleans' Anthony Davis (664,687) and Golden State's Draymond Green (616,730) are the top three frontcourt players.
Coaches will then choose the reserves and the two top vote-getters from each conference get to pick their teammates from the pool.
Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving leads all East guards with 1,370,643 votes, followed by Toronto Raptors' DeMar DeRozan (537,168). New Orleans' DeMarcus Cousins (587,835) is fourth. The Houston Rockets' James Harden has 978,540 votes and the Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook 791,332.
The All-Star captains and starters will be announced January 18, with the reserves unveiled five days later.
