Sunderland are rock bottom of the Championship and staring relegation in the face. It doesn't get any easier for the black cats whose next match comes away to high-flying Cardiff City on Saturday live on Sky Sports.

Sunderland have signed defender Jake Clarke-Salter on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season.

The Black Cats only have 22 points from 26 games.

The 17-year-old is however yet to start a Premier League for the defending champions, but his stupendous performances in the Carabao Cup has prompted Sunderland to seek for his signature before the window closes.

Sunderland will finalise a loan deal for defender Jake Clarke-Salter over the weekend, after he's featured for Chelsea at Norwich tonight.

Jake Clarke-Salter has made a big impression on his first full day at the Academy of Light, according to Billy Jones.

"I had a little bit of a taster [at Bristol Rovers last season] and it was cut short through injury, so hopefully I can play a lot of games until the end of the season and we can do well".

This season the youngster has spent the first half of the campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Clarke-Salter, who was part of the England Under-20 World Cup-winning side in 2017, has also been highly praised by former Chelsea captain John Terry.
