Egypt on Sunday denied a USA media report claiming that it has given a "tacit" acceptance to President Donald Trump's decision to officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Kholi allegedly told the news hosts, "How is Jerusalem different from Ramallah, really?" according to the Times report.

"Egypt's diplomatic stance will not be presented through leaks of doubtful credibility, but rather by the president [Abded Fattah al-Sissi] and the foreign minister [Sameh Shoukry] and official statements and all of these parties have made their resolute position on Jerusalem and the Palestinian issue clear, and this has been translated into deeds and votes at United Nations institutions despite threats from the United States", the Egyptian statement said on Sunday, according to Haaretz.

Capt. Kholi asked repeatedly in four audio recordings of his telephone calls obtained by The New York Times.

"It is inappropriate for The New York Times, a reputable newspaper, to publish such allegations", said an official statement by Egypt's State Information Service (SIS). "All the entities in charge have expressed in word and deed the inalienable position on Jerusalem in the U.N. and other worldwide organizations with disregard for the threats of the U.S.to cut aid to countries including Egypt over the U.N. Jerusalem vote". "We have enough on our plate now".

Egypt officially rejects the idea that a state representative would promote any city other than eastern Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital.

Captain Kholi, on tape, echoed exactly this sentiment, telling the talk show hosts, "The point that is unsafe for us is the intifada issue... Hamas would be reborn once more", Capt. Kholi explained.

'How is Jerusalem different from Ramallah?'

Ofir Winter, an analyst at the Institute for National Security Studies who specializes in Egypt, says that Egyptian authorities were anxious to prevent Islamists from being able to take advantage of Trump's Jerusalem declaration and therefore "wanted to control the height of the flames". Later on, he said in press statements that he intends to file a complaint.

In response, the SIS stated that the NYT report mentioned four of the "hosts of influential talk shows". "Concessions are a must and if we reach a concession whereby Jerusalem will be - Ramallah will be the capital of Palestine, to end the war and so no one else dies, then we would go for it".

The statement condemned the Times article for claiming that "Captain Ashraf El-Kholi" is an officer with the Egyptian General Intelligence, yet failing to present its readers with "the slightest evidence as to the truth of this piece of information, or that a person by this name exists in the first place". "I have no problem saying all of the things you have heard in that call in public". During a phone interview to "Al-Asema" (The Capital) program on Saturday, president of the Actors' Syndicate Ashraf Zaki announced that the syndicate will be strongly supporting the actress in "suing these programs and websites that are playing against Egypt".
