Sony Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and L2 revealed in official renders

Sony Xperia XA2 The new Sony Xperia XA2 series

Sony has a number of mid-range smartphones at different price points, and folks who prefer the company's affordable offerings are likely familiar with the Sony Xperia XA series, which launched in June 2016, and the Sony Xperia XA1, which hit stores shelves in in April 2017.

Sony will nearly certainly announce the Xperia XA2 series and the Xperia L2 in the near future - either at CES 2018 (January 9 - 12), or at MWC 2018 (February 26 - March 1).

The XA 2 Ultra will also have two front-facing 15MP cameras, to make the selfie lovers happy. Most of the specs of these devices have already appeared on the interwebs.

Sony's L2 remains more mysterious, but VentureBeat has photos that it says are the new model. Another biggest change is the transition from the MediaTek chip to Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC.

Xperia XA2 is further expected to include a 21-megapixel sensor at the rear camera - which will be capable of capturing 4K videos, while on the front, the phone may include a mediocre 8-megapixel camera. Specifically, the XA2 is listed with a 21MP, 4K-capable rear camera and 7MP front-facing selfie cam.

The Xperia XA2 will feature a 5.2-inch FHD 1080p display, an upgrade from last year's 5.0-inch 720p screen for XA1.

Less is known about the entry-level Xperia L2 (pictured above and below), other than the fact that it will maintain its predecessor's 5.2-inch, 720p display size and resolution - and that, unlike the Android Oreo-equipped Xperia XA2 duo, it may still ship with the older Android Nougat.

Based on the leaks, the 5.2-inch Xperia XA2 will be slightly larger than the original 5-inch XA, and it's getting full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution.

There's speculation that Sony will unveil the new smartphones at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show at CES next week, but there's also chance they won't see the light of day until February, at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona.
