Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wasllström said in a statement about recent unrest in Iran that she had rejected the United States proposal to bring Iran's case to the Security Council.

Kalın, also told reporters during a news conference in Ankara that while Iranian citizens had the right to hold demonstrations, it was not possible to accept acts that cause casualties and property damage, as the protests have left 21 people dead.

Haley said earlier this week that the United States wanted emergency meetings in NY and in Geneva at the Human Rights Council to discuss the Iran situation.

At least 21 people have been killed amid the anti-government protests and unrest over the country's economic woes - demonstrations Iran has accused the US of stirring up.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert had suggested the USA government could impose sanctions against Iranian officials who repress peaceful protests.

U.S. President Donald Trump and members of his administration have praised the anti-government protesters as people standing up to a repressive and corrupt regime.

In contrast to the US response to the Iran protests in 2009, where the Obama administration took a relatively hands-off approach, President Trump has promised "great support" for the demonstrators, while the State Department has hinted at sanctions for officials who abuse protesters and said that it will use Facebook and Twitter to communicate directly with activists.

"The United States continues to pursue a policy of open and implicit interference in the internal affairs of other states - doing it unabashedly, openly, under the slogan of caring for democracy and human rights, directly infringing on the sovereignty of other states", Sergei Ryabkov said Friday in comments carried by the Interfax news agency.

Differences in opinion between the United States and Europe over how to address the situation in Iran may also manifest themselves during the emergency meeting on Friday.

Russian Federation warned the United States against intervening in Iran and exploiting the situation there to undermine the agreement on Tehran's nuclear program.

"This is how we view the American initiative to convene the UN Security Council over a situation that is of purely national concern in Iran".

"They are acting of their own will, on their own behalf, for their own future". The Iranian people know the truth. Demonstrations erupted in Iran over a week ago after the government announced plans to raise fuel prices and cut monthly cash handouts to lower-income Iranians.
