The North Korean missile was launched on April 28, last year, from Pukchang Airfield in South Pyongan Province.

North Korea's pursuit to acquire nuclear weapons and building missiles to launch them might have had a drastic impact on the world, but the collateral damage that it might cause to the hermit kingdom in the long-term can't be ignored.

But the fiery crash of a North Korean missile into a populated town demonstrates yet another threat posed by Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions.

The Daily Mail noted that the city of Tokchon is inhabited by about 200,000 people.

Satellite imagery scanned by the authors shows damage to industrial or agricultural buildings near a residential area. The second image seems to show a crater and damages to the structure that did not exist in the first screenshot.

According to a U.S. government official, satellite images show damage to Tokchom, which has a population of 200,000, after a failed test launch.

With those changes, the US would only have a few hours to detect pre-launch preparations in the event that North Korea prepares to strike.

The revelation that the missile hit an unintended target raises new questions about the possibility that North Korea could accidentally start a nuclear war if an errant missile were to hit a country like Japan or South Korea.

It marked the first missile launched since one was sacked across Japan and into the Pacific Ocean on September 15.

The aggressive missile tests in the past few years have escalated tensions in the political arena between Pyongyang and Washington.

Kim Jong Un conducted 16 missile tests since February 2017, firing 23 various missiles.

The missile that reportedly crashed, was a Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile that had earlier been test fired twice and had failed on both occasions.

However The Diplomat said it was impossible to ascertain whether there was any loss of life.

North Korea launched an ICBM over Japan into the Pacific Ocean on September 14, and then again on November 29 of past year. The Trump administration says all options are on the table, including military measures against the North. Moon has repeatedly said he opposes any war on the Korean Peninsula.
