Hawaiian Air Flight That Took off in 2018 Will Land in 2017

There's A Flight That Took Off In 2018 And Landed In 2017 Hawaiian Air Flight That Took off in 2018 Will Land in 2017

A 10-minute delay in departure caused the flight, originally scheduled for December 31, 2017, to take off on January 1, 2018 from Auckland, New Zealand. Relax! It is neither a curious case of "time travel" nor a flight test of world's first "time machine".

A reporter for the Los Angeles-based ABC 7 News, Mr Sam Sweeney, tweeted on New Year's Eve that flight HA446, meant to depart Auckland, New Zealand, at 11.55pm local time, had been delayed by 10 minutes.

6 aircraft just took off from Taipei in 2018, bringing their passengers back to year 2017 in North America! Eight hours later, when it landed in Honolulu, it was still December 31, 2017. That meant the eight-hour flight landed at 10:16 a.m. on December 31, 2017. The plane "time traveled" because Auckland is 23 hours ahead of Honolulu. Passengers were able to celebrate the end of the 2017 calendar year twice. Thanks to the different time zones across the globe!

These unusual quirks of the calendar are fun to observe. The incredible time traveling flight was pointed out by the flight tracking website Flightradar24's Twitter account. Still, for a select group of passengers, being able to tell others how you toasted to 2018 twice is a pretty unique thing to brag about.
