Two arrested in murder of mother, kids, partner in Troy, New York Police: Two arrested for killings of four in Troy

During a press conference Saturday, Troy Police Chief John Tedesco said two Schenectady men were arrested following the killing of two women and two children in Troy.

The victims - Brandi Mells, 22, Shanta Myers, 36, and Myers' children Shanise, 5, and Jeremiah, 11 - were found dead in a basement apartment on Tuesday in what police called a "horrific" homicide that shook the upstate NY city. James W. White and Justin C. Mann each have been charged with one count of first-degree, which carries a penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole, along with counts of second degree murder.

The killings had left Myers' relatives and 15-year-old son broken and desperate for answers. More than two dozen people were in court Saturday, some wearing Troy Boys & Girls club sweatshirts.

The four were killed on December 21, and one of the defendants was acquainted with one of the victims, Troy Police Chief John Tedesco said at a news conference Saturday.

Police have said a preliminary investigation of the crime scene suggested the victims were targeted. Troy Police told Post-Star newspartners NewsChannel 13 that court appearances were scheduled for the suspects early Saturday.

The Times Union reported that the two children were discovered together, kneeling with their heads and chests on a bed.

Both White and Mann are remanded to appear next in court, on Thursday, Jan. 4. Tedesco said no more arrests are expected.

The men will next appear in court on January 4.

"After being in this business for nearly 42 years, I can't describe the savagery of this", Tedesco said.

Troy Police credited the arrests to the work of Troy Police Detectives, the NYSP Major Crimes Unite, NYS DOCCS, the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office and several other law enforcement agencies.
