The outage affected passengers at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports, said Port Authority spokesman Rudy King.

Customs and Border Protection began the new year with a computer outage that caused long lines at several airports.

Long lines of people waiting to go through customs at Miami International Airport due to a reported computer issue.

It's a rough night for worldwide travelers at Miami global Airport.

Worldwide passengers arriving at T.F. Green Airport were also affected by the outage, but the disruption was temporary and the system is back online.

Travelers entering the USA have been growing increasingly frustrated at long security queues as immigration desk computers at various United States airports shut down for about two hours on Monday, media reports have said.

"No one has been getting past JFK Airport immigration for the last hour".

According to the CBS News, there were up to 2,000 passengers stuck in lines at the Miami International Airport.

"All airports are back on line after a temporary outage of #CBP's processing systems", the agency said in a Tweet.

CBP officers continued to process worldwide passengers using alternative procedures, but the agency acknowledged that travelers at some ports of entry experienced longer than usual wait times.

Security remained the priority during the outage. Addressing security concerns, the US Customs and Borders Protection said that there was no indication that the service disruption was malicious in nature.
