Saints lose to Buccaneers, win NFC South anyway

The Saints earned their first playoff berth since the 2013 season and they have a chance to win the NFC South title. Tampa Bay coach Dirk Koetter could be fired after a very disappointing season Rapid Reaction: Buccaneers vs. Saints

It would be Kamara again who punched in a 7-yard run to put the Saints up 14-7 with 2:36 remaining in the first quarter. The Saints stopped one Tampa drive when rookie safety Marcus Williams made his third interception of the season and on another when linebacker Craig Robertson picked off Winston.

The Bucs converted a fourth-and-10 from their own 5 to get the winning drive started.

News had come Friday that head coach Dirk Koetter would be back for a third season in 2018.

For the second straight week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are without wide receiver DeSean Jackson and defensive end Robert Ayers.

After the Bucs had taken a 24-20 lead and pinned the Saints on their 8-yard line following the kickoff, the Brees-led offense effectively sliced through Tampa Bay's defense.

The Bucs connected on a 42-yard field goal on their next drive to cut New Orleans lead to 24-23 with 4:31 left on the clock.

Tampa Bay had a chance to tie the game before the half, but after Winstons 1-yard touchdown run, Murray missed the extra point, giving the Saints a 14-13 halftime lead.

For the Saints, left tackle Terron Armstead (thigh) was inactive. Although the Bucs are sitting at 4-11 and have been eliminated from playoff contention, their goal is to still finish the season off strong when the two teams face off today.

Ingram and Kamara were able to set an incredible record by each reaching at least 1,500 scrimmage yards in a single season.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (41) runs in for a touchdown during the first half of an National Football League game between the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 31, 2017, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL.
